Many or most other AALs have (basically) the same word, e.g. Mondlango skio, Romanova sci, Sambahsa ski. This is not a surprise, since many AALs were largely based on Esperanto and/or on major European languages (as Esperanto is). An exception is the a priori (built from scratch) language Kah, whose word is shoya. On the other hand, another a priori language, Suma, has a clearly borrowed word for 'ski', ski. The Slovio word for 'ski', lizxa, is very similar to the Russian word for it, лыжа, while the Lango word, narto, closely resembles the Latin and Polish words with this meaning, narta (in both languages). Relatively few AALs include much more vocabulary relating to skiing, but Esperanto does have some terms, including slalomo 'slalom', as do SPL and some others.]]> Tue 04 Oct 2022 09:26:19 AEDT ]]> A principles and parameters account of the Case marking properties of the Turkish postposition için and its cognates in other Turkish languages https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:2398 Sat 24 Mar 2018 10:42:46 AEDT ]]> Language, frogs and savants (book review) https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:7640 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:36:02 AEDT ]]> Case marking of Turkic adpositional objects https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:2179 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:30:12 AEDT ]]> Writing for University (review) https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:18257 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:04:34 AEDT ]]> A glossary of semantics and pragmatics (book review) https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:5141 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:49:43 AEDT ]]> On pragmemes in artificial languages https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28725 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:35:40 AEDT ]]> The pragmatics of indirect discourse in artificial languages https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28727 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:35:40 AEDT ]]> What can pragmaticists learn from studying artificial languages? https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28728 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:35:40 AEDT ]]> Adpositions, deixis, and anti-deixis https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28726 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:35:39 AEDT ]]> The representation of Korean and other Altaic languages in artificial international auxiliary languages https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:25435 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:32:02 AEDT ]]> Terms for bodies of water in a posteriori and mixed artificial languages https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:30299 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:31:53 AEDT ]]> The representation of Uralic languages in artificial international auxiliary languages https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28690 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:30:10 AEDT ]]> Australian bird names: a complete guide https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:23595 Australian Bird Names: A Complete Guide.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:13:21 AEDT ]]> Aspects of the grammar and lexica of artificial languages https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:13467 Mon 21 Oct 2013 11:06:22 AEDT ]]> Innovation In Educational Physical And Life Science Games https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47950 Mon 13 Feb 2023 13:38:59 AEDT ]]> The Genitive And Dative Cases Of Voldu https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47948 Mon 13 Feb 2023 13:10:54 AEDT ]]> Hotel Responses to Online Reviews: The Opening and Closing Move Structures in Rapport Management https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47947 Mon 13 Feb 2023 12:07:59 AEDT ]]> Adpositions and presuppositions https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:25032 presuppose and/or presupposition are not used in a technical sense in them, or (3) the presuppositions involved are not unique to adpositions. Some adpositions, e.g. despite, have been claimed to be factive, and thus could be presupposition triggers, but it is difficult to determine this, due to the fact that their complements are arguably always themselves presupposition triggers. On the other hand, directional adpositions are clearly presuppositional, as they trigger presuppositions about the location of an object/or entity before or after the motion whose description they are partly responsible for.
